Ms. Irshad Begum is a highly accomplished educationist and social development leader with 27+ years of dedicated service in Pakistan’s education sector. She currently serves GRAO in three key leadership roles: Promoter & Secretary General, Chairman of the Board of Advisory, and Director General of Education, where she shapes the organization’s learning, capacity building, and training strategies.
Her strong academic foundation in education and pedagogy underpins her decades of work in institutional development and teacher training.
1983 – 1997 | Teacher (Primary to Higher Secondary Level)
Began her career as a classroom teacher, serving students from primary to higher secondary level across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. She became known for student-centered teaching and curriculum innovation at the grassroots level.
1998 – 2000 | Assistant District Education Officer (Inspection)
Transitioned into educational administration, overseeing school inspections, quality assurance, and compliance with government standards.
2001 – 2002 | Master Trainer – GTZ (German Development Agency)
Selected as a Master Trainer by GTZ. Designed and delivered training programmes for teachers and education officers on modern teaching methods, classroom management, and institutional development.
2002 – 2006 | Assistant District Education Officer (Establishment)
Managed human resource and establishment matters within the education department, including teacher postings, transfers, and service records.
2006 – 2013 | Assistant District Education Officer (Establishment – Primary)
Specialized in primary education management, focusing on enrolment drives, teacher training, and improving retention rates in public schools.
2014 – 2016 | Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Barikot, Swat
Led an entire sub-division’s education operations. Coordinated between schools, district offices, and communities to improve infrastructure, monitoring, and learning outcomes in post-conflict Swat.
2017 – 2025 | Principal, Government Girls High School (GGHS), Shadara, Swat
Served as Principal for eight years, transforming the school into a model institution. Focused on girls’ education, leadership development, discipline, and academic excellence.
Ms. Irshad Begum has been honored with multiple awards and gold medals in recognition of her exceptional contributions to education, teacher training, and the promotion of girls’ education across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her work has been acknowledged by leading national and international organizations, including UNICEF, WFP, GTZ, DFID, Save the Children, USAID, and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Beyond her formal roles, she has worked extensively across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on social welfare initiatives. She is deeply passionate about community service and continuous learning, with a personal interest in reading books and promoting literacy.
As Director General of Education, she leads GRAO’s education programmes, teacher training, youth skills development, and digital literacy initiatives. Her 27+ years of field and administrative experience make her a core pillar of GRAO’s community development strategy.
